नर्सेज डे कैसे और क्यों शुरू हुआ :-
1844 को उन्होंने अपनी माता को कहा की वो नर्स बनना चाहती है लेकिन उनकी माता ने इंकार कर दिया .क्यों के उस समय वह के हस्पतालों की स्थितियां बहुत भयानक थी और नर्सों को अनैतिक माना जाता था अपने माता-पिता से नर्स के लिए जर्मन प्रशिक्षण स्कूल कैसरवर्थ में कुछ महीने बिताने की अनुमति मिल गयी.
1854 में उन्होंने क्रेमिअ युद्ध में घायल सैनिको की देखभाल की तथा कई सैनिकों को मोत के मुँह से बचाया जिस कारन उनकी प्रसिद्धि पुरे ब्रिटेन में होने लगी .जिन सैनिकों को उन्होंने बचाया उनको वो मेरे बच्चे कह कर बुलाती थी .उनकी मेहनत साहस और लगन को देखते हुए उनके जनम दिवस को इंटरनेशनल नर्सेज डे के रूप में मनाया जाता है
